- Description
- Technical competence and ethical discipline of professionals are major attributes that stimulate sustenance of public interest, respect and pride in professionalism. However, recent developments about certain challenges regarding delivery of professional services in construction are worrisome. Apparently, more aspects of professional services rendered in the industry are being seen as unsatisfactory and unnecessary. The impact of this challenge on construction image could be negative and far reaching, especially when clients' desires and expectations are changing rapidly. This study explores some of the challenges confronting professional service delivery in construction. Emphasis is given on balancing variables of technical competencies with ethical discipline with a view to improving clients' satisfaction. Two (2) case studies are analyzed in this study; with conclusions and recommendations drawn on challenges of sustaining public interest and project performance in the industry. The study discovers that clients' knowledge about the industry and their expectations on professionalism have witnessed radical increase in the past decade. Further analysis shows that indicators of improvements in variables of professionalism are still very weak.
