- This paper applies an evolutionary numerical optimisation technique to the design of belt conveying systems using the CEMA [1] universal design method as the basis for power calculations. The optimisation technique selects the design variables to minimise motion resistance, energy consumption or life cycle costs (expressed as Annual Equivalent Costs - AEC). The process allows for a wide range of conveyor systems to be evaluated and compared ensuring that an optimal design is achieved.
