- This book has presented 13 chapters of lived research experiences. It is clear on reading these contributions that qualitative research methodologies are not an exact science. This is not chemistry, where hydrogen is hydrogen regardless of where you find it or test it. Perhaps the primary reason for this is the nature of people, and more importantly the subjectivity, biases and personalities of a wide range of people associated with the research process. However, for those of us who are drawn to this field of research, these factors are quite often what makes our work interesting and exciting as well as exhausting and frustrating. As researchers we find ourselves investigating 'new' workplace issues as a means of generating understanding. We also might look at 'old' workplace issues with a new theoretical lens. Increasingly, we are beginning to understand both old and new opportunities and challenges to our research agenda. This final chapter will explore some of the opportunities and challenges that have been developed throughout the preceding chapters. These include the influence of gender on research, technology, the use of images and the increasing requirement to meet national ethics protocols.
