- Description
- The rapid growth of wind energy generation makes it necessary to constantly update the associated technologies. This includes power converters and control methods for doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) systems that are commonly used in wind power applications. This paper proposes the use of indirect matrix converter (IMC) as a replacement of the traditional back-to-back converter in the DFIG system. It utilizes model predictive control (MPC) and modulated MPC (MMPC) as the two promising control options for the DFIG drive. The paper presents performance comparison between the two control methods and discusses their relative advantages and disadvantages. Successful application of both control schemes is validated by simulations in MATLAB / Simulink environment.
