- Description
- Obesity is a chronic and relapsing condition where weight loss is often associated with regain of weight over time. The prevalence of obesity is increasing, and it is now referred to as a global pandemic. Prevalence data suggest that by 2035, over 4 billion people worldwide may be living with overweight (BMI ≥25 kg/m2) or obesity, compared with the 2020 prevalence of 2.6 billion. The prevalence of obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) alone is expected to increase from 14% to 24% of the world’s population over this time, leading to almost 2 billion adults, children, and adolescents living with obesity by 2035.
