- This chapter provides practical guides, based on a theory for mathematical validity framework, for finding the fatigue damage function with an S–N curve. The Kim and Zhang S–N curve model is described for practicality within the historical context of development of other S–N curve models. Subsequently, the validity conditions required in predicting the remaining fatigue life at zero stress ratio are discussed and a damage function satisfying the validity conditions is also discussed. A procedure for predicting the remaining fatigue life using an approximately valid damage function is demonstrated. Comparisons between experimental results for fatigue failure from two stress-level sequence loading, and remaining fatigue life predictions, are made.
