- Description
- Childhoods in contemporary times are shaped by multiple trajectories of cultural, educational, socio-political, economic, and regional/global climatic changes. Today, children’s lifeworlds—their living and learning experiences across multiple socio-cultural settings and networks—are exposed to the full impacts and effects of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Examples of experiencing the global in the local and the local in the global for the formation of “glocal” can be seen across every domain of children’s lives. Situated within particular glocal socio-historical events and structural conditions, children today are experiencing different types of childhoods in comparison to their (grand)parents. The landscapes of children’s lifeworlds are not only being (re)produced by but are also (re)producing (new) dominant cultural discourses, political-economic reasoning, educational practices, and social policies to perpetuate a dangerous politics of childhoods with a universal experience of childhood.
