- Description
- Biopesticides have attracted much interest in the research community and have been recommended as potentially good alternatives to synthetic pesticides. While there are issues concerning product performance, their development, especially in the area of nanotechnology, is a burgeoning area where biopesticide formulations have been better designed. For this reason, they have garnered much attention over the past decade. The development of various multifunctional organic and inorganic nanocarriers with hierarchical structures has made possible a more efficient delivery of diversified biopesticides. As well, biogenic sources and the green synthetic route of these nanoparticulates further ensure their ecofriendly applications, particularly when the nanobiopesticides are prepared through adsorption, attachment, entrapment, and encapsulation techniques. To some extent, nanoparticles themselves can nullify agricultural pests. A biopesticide containing a nanocomposite matrix and an emulsion-based, nanodroplet-oriented formulation can increase biopesticide molecule solubility and stability. This chapter discusses the chemical composition and preparation techniques of different nanobiopesticides, and the strategies involved in loading and suitability of the nanocarriers for various bioactive agents. Provided here is in-depth knowledge concerning the selection of appropriate methods and biocompatible nanocarrier materials suitable for a specific biopesticide or group of biopesticides. Furthermore, this chapter provides important information on developing sustainable nanobiopesticide formulations that promote environmentally friendly pest management in the coming decades.
