- Description
- This joint chapter focuses upon our current research project into a key aspect of the Indigenous history of New South Wales, 'The NSW Aborigines Protection/Welfare Board 1883-1969: A History'. In explaining the project's formation and its background, and offering an overview of some of the issues and insights that have arisen thus far, we highlight our own personal interest in the project and our family connections to early Aboriginal political activism in New South Wales. We speak as two individuals in separate voices-John Maynard as a Worimi Aboriginal historian and Victoria Haskins as a white Australian historian-with a shared opening reflection on the impact of Marilyn Lake and her scholarship upon us both.
