- Description
- Matrix Converters (MC) have prominent advantages in various AC/AC power conversion applications. However, due to a tight interconnection between input and output, MC lacks a degree of freedom that would be necessary to simultaneously achieve current tracking on both load and supply sides. This paper proposes a novel control scheme that achieves improved tracking on the load side, combined with effective resonance suppression and power factor control at the MC supply. The proposed scheme combines the benefits of modern control concepts, including internal model principle, observers, state feedback and integral action at given frequencies. It is computationally efficient, and can be used in combination with any modulator, e.g. SVM. The proposed scheme is shown to have extremely high tolerance to modelling errors, disturbances, power losses and voltage drops in switches, and other non-idealities. The results of the paper are validated by simulations.
