- Description
- This chapter considers select poems from Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil) from the perspective of the Classical Tradition (see Silk et al. 2017), namely, Baudelaire’s engagement with Paris as a city built on top of a Gallic Rome, or a Roman Gaul, which lies literally under his feet, as well as his poetic intertextuality, which draws on both Latin and Greek literature, particularly, Virgil, Ovid and Sappho.
