- Description
- This study addressed the issues of high working temperatures and poor throw that are commonly associated with Ship Loaders (SLs) used at export terminals. High temperatures can degrade the properties of liners and reduce life, while poor throw may lower efficiency and lead to equipment operating in close proximity to ships. The temperatures of the Trimmer Flap (TF) were investigated experimentally and numerically through on-sit temperature measurements and Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) models. Good agreements were found, indicating the accuracy of the developed models in simulating heat transfer and predicting temperatures. Moreover, a model based on the flow theories was developed for the trimmer flap optimisation. The model provided optimal trimmer flap profiles by configuring trimmer flaps with variable parameters and comparing their performance. DEM simulations were conducted to show the performance improvements offered by the obtained optimal trimmer flaps.
