Description: Late in the southern Africa rainfall season of 2018/19, two tropical cyclones (TC)—each record-breaking storms in their own right—made landfall over Mozambique, marking the first time since the advent of reliable satellite imagery over the western Indian Ocean in 1979 that two intense (Category 2 and Category 4) TCs made landfall over the country in a single season. Tropical Cyclone Idai (4–16 March) was the longest-lived tropical system on record in the Mozambique Channel, while Kenneth (23–26 April) became the strongest storm on record to make landfall in Mozambique.
