- Description
- Childhood is a period in life that is overflowing with possibilities and inspiration. Our contemporary society has designed an institution that cuts this creativity and wisdom off at the knees. Most children live their lives sitting behind a desk being told what to do and when to do it. They are surrounded by rules, and instead of learning about life through the processes and principles of its actual unfolding, because their bodies are confined, they spend their time thinking up ways to undermine the caging they are subjected to. And so the function of schooling in the current conjuncture is not to instil an education at least not in the idealized sense that we might typically like to conceive of education but is instead a mechanism though which hierarchy and authority are to be imparted as though they are the very oxygen and necessary sustenance that sustains our lives.
