- Description
- Matrix Converters (MC) have prominent advantages in AC/AC power conversion applications, such as electrical drives for underground mining vehicles. However, due to a tight interconnection between its input and output, simultaneous control of load side and grid-side quantities remains a challenge. In model-based control it is important to have accurate models describing the MC input and output. It has been found that conventional discrete-time modelling does not provide a satisfactory result. This problem is overcome in this paper by proposing an advanced hybrid modelling principle that correctly treats both zero-order-hold and continuous input. Performance improvement resulting from using hybrid models is confirmed by simulation. Ideas presented in this paper can be applied to a range of applications, including voltage source converters with RL loads, current source converters with RLC filters, and matrix converters with the combination of the above.
