- Description
- The claim that women in South Asia, including Bangladesh, are subordinate to men is hardly a new one. Yet our understanding of the intricate mechanisms that maintain the unequal power structure between men and women is still limited. In this chapter, I shall focus on a dimension largely ignored in previous studies of South Asian women: appearance and more particularly skin colour, and its role in identity formation.
