- Description
- Endotoxin (LPS) has for long been regarded as an important cause of chronic liver disease. The clinical and experimental evidence for this has recently been reviewed by Nolan and Camara. However, although the hepatoxic effect of LPS has been extensively studied in animal experiments, its possible causative role in progressive alcoholic liver disease has not been studied in animal models. This study was designed to examine the role of minimal quantities of exogenous LPS as a hepatotoxin in rats on prolonged alcohol diets.
