- Description
- This paper analyses Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style houses using a combined syntactical and grammatical method. This new method supports the analysis of an architectural style and the generation of new instances of that style which conform to the original's social and functional planning as well as to their formal character. The method commences by identifying the spatial properties of a design using a special type of Justified Plan Graph (called a 'JPG grammar') and then derives a set of rules to generate its corresponding three-dimensional form (called a '3D shape grammar'). This abstract is limited to introducing the two grammars, the first socially-derived and the second formally-derived.
