- The Indian clothing industry is the second largest producer of textiles and garments in the world, with exports during 2007-2008 totalling US$ 9.68 billion. It supplies the Americas, the EU, much of Asia and the Middle East. It contributes to 8% of India's total exports, employs 6 million people, and is the second largest provider of employment in the country (Indiamart website). However, in recent years, the industry has been the subject of a number of investigations regarding its use of child labour.
