- Description
- Scholarship in design education explores the theoretical principles and practices of other disciplines. This paper evaluates the current thinking of a number of researchers in educational psychology who are exploring and debating the opportunities presented by adopting the thinking, metaphors and methods of the design discipline into their traditional research practice. Their research incorporates 'design thinking' as a tool instead of being the object of study. The adoption of the thinking found within the design discipline creates a new type of research dialect for educational researchers, referred to as 'design-based research'. Educational psychology's typically clinical research methods adhere to a classic understanding of the scientific approach. The exploration of how design creates, explores, processes and validates its research is being explored as an alternative way to inform the development of educational research. This paper evaluates the thinking within this community, identifying the contribution 'design thinking' is making in another discipline.
