- Description
- China is the most densely populated country in the world with a population of over 1.37 billion. Since the introduction of economic reforms in 1978, which moved the country from a centrally planned economy towards a more marketoriented economy, China has become the fastest-growing major economy in the world. According to China's twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), China's annual average Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth between 2006 and 2010 was 11.2 per cent, and the urbanisation rate grew from 43 per cent in 2005 to 4 7 .5 per cent in 2010. One of the key targets in the twelfth Five-Year Plan is to reach an annual average GDP growth of 7 per cent and an urbanisation rate of 51.5 per cent.
