- Description
- Engineering cementitious composites (ECC) has many characteristics that contribute to self-healing behavior over normal concrete, which has been fast developed in recent years as an extremely durable and environmentally friendly material. Self-healing capability of ECC with minerals was also attractive and investigated by many researchers. In this paper, an up-to-date review on self-healing of ECC is presented. First, the different methods employed in producing ECC with self-healing capabilities are summarized. Then the recent works on self-healing of ECC with different minerals such as, silica-based (pozzolans), crystalline, and expansive agents, are reviewed and the possible enhancement of self-healing efficacy by using a combination of minerals are discussed. The common test methods used to assess the self-healing behavior of ECC are also reviewed. Based on the current research status of self-healing in ECC, some perspectives for further research on self-healing of ECC are recommended at last.
