- Description
- Technologies to properly model the influence of soil heterogeneity on geotechnical performance are desired. Traditional deterministic approaches based on single representative property values are to be replaced by an alternative stochastic approach, combining random field theory with finite elements. A methodology for the stochastic approach has been developed incorporating the spatial variation of material properties, thereby enabling a probabilistic evaluation of the performance of slopes and other geotechnical structures.
