- Description
- What do Die Hard (1988), Alien 3 (1992), Batman Returns (1992), Apollo 13 (1995), Babe (1995), Titanic (1997), The Golden Compass (2007), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and Life of Pi (2012) have in common? They are all digital visual effects-intensive motion pictures produced and distributed by major Hollywood studios and have each generated hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide in box office receipts. They have each either won or been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Visual Effects (VFX) category. And the principal award-winning or -nominated American VFX provider for each of these films has eventually closed down, filed for bankruptcy, or been sold cheap to the highest bidder.
