Description: Maslow's (1954) theory of human motivation has frequently been applied to the work place despite a lack of empirical validation. Hence, the primary aim of the present study is to determine whether each of Maslow's needs are relevant and unique predictors of job satisfaction. Results from a sample of 120 working undergraduates found physical needs to be the only need category that was significantly correlated with work satisfaction, although further analyses suggested that these results may be dependent on job level. However, further research is necessary to confirm the reliability and validity of the instrument used to measure Maslow's needs.
