- This study addresses the value of key strategies to teach Civics and Citizenship and in particular to clarify which technological strategies are best suited to Civics and Citizenship Education (CCE). The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has developed a Civics and Citizenship curriculum document, as part of the Humanities and Socials Sciences learning area, and although it is yet to be endorsed it is available and is being implemented in a number of states of Australia. An investigation of how future teachers perceive their confidence to teach CCE, and their use of technology for teaching in this area is thus of value for national curriculum developments. Pre-service teachers were asked to rate their confidence in teaching technology and citizenship and what technology they thought was best to teach CCE. Experimentation in the use of iPad technology in CCE in teacher education courses had some success in developing pre-service teachers' appreciation of its application to a civic capability but there was much room for further research into best uses of technology in CCE. The idea of a TPACK associated with CCE was acknowledged as a possibility.
