- This chapter examines TYA and troublesome representational and educational processes of staging contemporary adolescent girl worlds. The paper focuses on a recent Australian TYA project for teenage audiences commissioned by the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in south western Sydney. Tough Beauty was written by renowned TYA playright Finegan Kruckemeyer and directed by Claudia Chidiac, a theatre practitioner with a longstanding interest in the emacipatory potential of TYA and the politics of youth arts participation.
