- Description
- It is well established that children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) are more likely to have significant, often unrecognised and unmet, acute and chronic health needs than those in the general population (Royal Australasian College of Physicians, 2006). Data from Australia and overseas, including studies from NSW, indicate that children and young people entering OOHC tend to have poor physical and mental health, increased rates of developmental difficulties and are less likely to access preventative health services such as immunisation compared to the general population (Tzioumi and Nathanson, 2007).
