- Description
- The development of the incremental stress-strain and water retention relationships of a constitutive model for unsaturated soils is a fundamental step prior the implementation of the constitutive model into a finite element code to solve boundary value problems. This paper presents the general formulation involved in the derivation of such incremental relationships for two existing constitutive models for unsaturated soils. The formulation presented is then applied to a number of fictitious stress paths to illustrate two complementary aspects: on the one hand, to demonstrate the validity of the incremental formulation presented and, on the other, to show particular capabilities of each model under various fictitious conventional triaxial stress paths.
