- Description
- As a result of the rapid economic growth of China in the 21 century teaching and learning of Chinese as a second language (CSL) has expanded from China to other countries all over the world. Consequently, teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) includes not only the teaching CSL at universities in China but also the teaching CSL at all level of educational institutions in other non-Chinese speaking countries. Training qualified teachers of TCSOL who can work in a multi-cultural environment is becoming an urgent task to teacher educators while a cross-disciplinary issue is raised in CSL teacher education. This article proposes a dynamic thinking about how to promote TCSOL by referencing the successful example of TESOL development in the world.
