- Description
- This paper presents findings from the re-evaluation of Hennessy's 'Processional' wall painting, uncovered at Teleilat Ghassul in 1977. A digital reconstruction of the mural, using scans of the original fragment photographs, has recently been undertaken and it is now evident that the scene depicts a line of masked figures wearing elaborate costumes. The individuals carry a variety of intriguing objects and appear to walk in file towards a walled enclosure. The reconstructed mural provides new insights into the artistic traditions and ritual practices of south Levantine Chalcolithic life, with relevance to the ongoing debate on Ghassulian social hierarchy.
