- Description
- Social work faces an exciting but challenging future. The demands placed on social work and the changing contours of its remit will vary from place to place and across time. Shifts in how service-users are perceived, as consumers or clients, and their role in determining resources and intervention is one very obvious challenge, as is the professional autonomy and skill base of its labour force. Relationship with other professional groups, the shaping of its knowledge base, advances in new technologies, optimal levels of well-resourced interventions and its ability to sustain a core value base in the face of global marketisation and neoliberal political agendas, all suggest testing times ahead for social work.
