- Description
- Rural communities and isolated homesteads in Australia have a long and proud history in the culture and identity of all Australians. The exploration and settlement of this vast interior is still seen by many as heroic, though now it is better understood how those events negatively affected the Australian indigenous population. The consequences of the European settlement of Australia's interior are still being addressed through a process of national reconciliation. The aims of this process are to build an understanding across the nation about the value and worth of indigenous peoples and cultures, and thus build a constructive dialogue for changing relationships and material outcomes for the better over the next phase of Australian history.
