Humanity

Humanity is a postgraduate journal run collaboratively by the University of Newcastle and Macquarie University. The journal aims to produce innovative, interdisciplinary research from Humanities and Social Sciences postgraduate students, promoting the work of Australia’s up-and-coming researchers. Humanity provides postgraduate students an outlet to advance their professional skills by producing an academic paper, responding to peer reviewers feedback, and publishing in a peer-reviewed journal.

In previous years, the journal has solely been the output of NewMAC, an annual Humanities and Social Sciences conference run by postgraduate students from the University of Newcastle and Macquarie University respectively. For many students, NewMAC is the first opportunity they have had to present their research in an academic forum. The symposium has become a great success year after year for both Newcastle and Macquarie students, and as a result, Humanity is broadening its output.

This year, for the first time, Humanity presents its first solo edition, to be released once a year after the annual NewMAC edition. This solo edition welcomes entries from postgraduate students across all Australian universities, and places emphasis on postgraduate research that exemplifies innovation, quality, and forward thinking. As an academic journal run by postgraduate students for postgraduate students, it is our hope that Humanity continues to provide Australian postgraduates the opportunity to publish their work, and become familiar with the publishing process.
