Furthermore, no interaction or between-group differences were evident for RPE across either session (P > .05). Conclusions: HR and RPE values were comparable between masters and young cyclists when relative HR responses and HR training load models are used. This finding suggests HR and RPE methods used to monitor or prescribe training load can be used interchangeably between masters and young athletes irrespective of chronological age.]]> Wed 28 Jul 2021 15:32:45 AEST ]]> Radiomics-Derived Brain Age Predicts Functional Outcome after Acute Ischemic Stroke https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:49987 Wed 28 Feb 2024 16:27:03 AEDT ]]> Dynamics of brain-muscle networks reveal effects of age and somatosensory function on gait https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:54882 Wed 20 Mar 2024 13:18:18 AEDT ]]> Should we be measuring DNA damage in human spermatozoa? Results: No significant between-group differences were observed for HRR60 (P = 0.096) or HRRτ (P = 0.617). However, a significant interaction effect was found for RMSSD30 (P = 0.021), with the master cyclists showing higher RMSSD30 values following HIT. Similar results were observed in the time and frequency domain analyses with significant interaction effects found for the natural logarithm of the RMSSD (P = 0.008), normalised low-frequency power (P = 0.016) and natural logarithm of high-frequency power (P = 0.012). Conclusion: Following high-intensity interval training, master cyclists demonstrated greater post-exercise parasympathetic reactivation compared to young cyclists, indicating that physical training at older ages has significant effects on autonomic function.]]> Mon 23 Sep 2019 12:34:33 AEST ]]> Effects of fitness and fatness on age-related arterial stiffening in people with type 2 diabetes https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:50096 1c 8.4 ± 1.6%) were included in this cross-sectional analysis. Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) was used to quantify arterial stiffness. Aerobic fitness (relative V̇O2peak ) was determined via indirect calorimetry during maximal exercise testing. Central body fatness was determined using waist circumference. Data were analysed using hierarchical multiple regressions. After adjustment for sex and duration of T2D, each one standard deviation (SD) increase in age (8.68 years) was associated with a 0.63 m·s-1 increase in cfPWV (β = 0.416, p = 0.001). Following adjustment for aerobic fitness and body fatness, the standardized β was unchanged (0.417). A one SD increase in waist circumference (13.9 cm) and relative V̇O2peak (5.3 ml·kg-1 ·min-1 ) were associated with a similar magnitude of difference in cfPWV (0.47 m·s-1 and -0.44 m·s-1 , respectively). Therefore, age is a significant correlate of increased arterial stiffness in T2D, with higher aerobic fitness attenuating, and higher body fatness exacerbating, this increase. Interventions aimed at improving cardiovascular outcomes in people with T2D should target both increased aerobic fitness and reduced body fatness.]]> Mon 17 Jul 2023 11:57:25 AEST ]]> Patterns of sensory modulation by age and sex in young people on the autism spectrum https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:50939 Mon 14 Aug 2023 12:58:30 AEST ]]> Age-dependent Disturbances of Neuronal and Glial Protein Expression Profiles in Areas of Secondary Neurodegeneration Post-stroke https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:43040 Mon 12 Sep 2022 12:10:20 AEST ]]> Back to zero?
