Multivariate logistic regression explored variables related to tobacco smoking. Results: Eight hundred nineteen patients participated. Over one-fifth (21.8%) identified as a current smoker, half (51.8%) reported consuming alcohol at hazardous levels in the last 12 months, and about 10% stated that they had used cannabis in the last 30 days (9.7%), or experienced symptoms of either anxiety (12.4%), or depression (12.9%) in the last two weeks. Over one-fifth of current tobacco smokers (21.8%) reported drinking heavily in the last 12 months and using cannabis recently. Males, with a lower educational attainment, who were unmarried, had used cannabis recently, and report drinking heavily were more likely to be current smokers. Conclusions: Health behaviour interventions addressing comorbidities are warranted among the orthopaedic trauma population given the high rate of comorbidity and impact these may have on recovery.]]> Tue 26 Nov 2019 15:16:09 AEDT ]]> A systematic narrative review of the effectiveness of behavioural smoking cessation interventions in selected disadvantaged groups (2010-2017) https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:28392 Thu 28 Oct 2021 13:04:50 AEDT ]]> Clinical characteristics of patients with asthma COPD overlap (ACO) in australian primary care https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:45336 Thu 27 Oct 2022 10:50:18 AEDT ]]> System change interventions for smoking cessation https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:27028 Thu 17 Mar 2022 14:41:44 AEDT ]]> Smokeless tobacco policy in Bangladesh: A stakeholder study of compatibility with the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:49327 Thu 11 May 2023 15:00:55 AEST ]]> Cough in Children and Adults: Diagnosis, Assessment and Management (CICADA). Changes in management as a result of this statement: ; Algorithms for assessment and diagnosis of adult and paediatric chronic cough are recommended. ; High quality evidence supports the use of child-specific chronic cough management algorithms to improve clinical outcomes, but none exist in adults. ; Red flags that indicate serious underlying conditions requiring investigation or referral should be identified. ; Early and effective treatment of chronic wet/productive cough in children is critical. ; Culturally specific strategies for facilitating the management of chronic cough in First Nations populations should be adopted. ; If the chronic cough does not resolve or is unexplained, the patient should be referred to a respiratory specialist or cough clinic.]]> Thu 04 Apr 2024 13:51:48 AEDT ]]> Smoking rates and smoking cessation preferences of pregnant women attending antenatal clinics of two large Australian maternity hospitals https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:21304 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:54:39 AEDT ]]> Factors associated with nicotine replacement therapy use among hospitalised smokers https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:47478 Mon 23 Jan 2023 11:33:30 AEDT ]]> Diagnosing COPD and supporting smoking cessation in general practice: evidence-practice gaps https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:47501 Mon 13 Nov 2023 10:43:51 AEDT ]]> Educational interventions for health professionals managing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in primary care https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:51412 Mon 04 Sep 2023 14:52:36 AEST ]]> Systematic review and meta-analysis of the prevalence of smokeless tobacco consumption among adults in Bangladesh, India and Myanmar https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:39340 Mon 03 Jul 2023 10:37:21 AEST ]]> Treatable traits in an English cohort: prevalence and predictors of future decline in lung function and quality of life in COPD https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/manager/Repository/uon:49402 Fri 12 May 2023 14:41:04 AEST ]]> Which smokers enroll in a hospital based smoking cessation trial?
