This chapter briefly examines the therapeutic use of play. Four invited vignettes are presented to illustrate different play approaches used by therapists in very different settings. These include a play therapy session in a community hall; an ecological play and leisure intervention in a school setting; procedural play to help a child to gain mastery over an anxiety provoking medical procedure and a therapist's reflections on facilitating play in a culturally different environment - a remote Australian Aboriginal community.
