[English translation of title: An Australian university which works in an exceptional way promoting changes in policy and practices in order to strengthen families and communities] The Family Action Centre (FAC), Faculty of Health, University of Newcastle, is a centre that exists to strengthen families and build social justice in the community. The FAC achieves this by providing services in community development, family support, policy advice and undertaking formal research, training and dissemination. This combination of activities make the FAC a unique centre based at an Australian University. The delivery of community service programs provide the staff with the sensitivity to the important issues that are confronting families and communities, fueling the research and dissemination activities.
