- Description
- Cultures education is teaching about cultural norms and differences with a view to learning to interact and engage with many different groups. The definition provided by the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2001) is 'culture should be regarded as the set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group, and that it encompasses, in addition to art and literature, lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs' (p.12). In Australia there are a number of cultural obligations that necessitate that this area be promoted in the HSIE area of the curriculum.
