Description: A celebration of '60 Years of Education in Newcastle' was held by the School of Education at the University of Newcastle in March 2009. The author attended the commemoration as the last survivor of the original 13 lecturing staff who launched teacher training in Newcastle in 1949. Lecturing at a teachers' college was described as being 'halfway to heaven'. The optimistic post-war environment in which Newcastle Teachers' College was established, and the collegiate spirit of the times is captured.
