The Australian labour market in 2004 saw strong employment growth and further fall in the official unemployment rate. However the problem of significant hidden unemployment and underemployment remains. This article discusses the ongoing under utilisation of labour in South Australia, the emerging trend of very long working hours for full time workers, and economic and policy developments in 2005, in particular the impact of proposed changes to industrial relations legislation.
