Description
Methamphetamine use is a heterogeneous activity and is associated with a complex range of problems, only some of which are the result of drug dependence. Therefore, a range of innovative intervention options are required to appropriately respond to methamphetamine users and to attract and retain them in treatment. Many of the strategies that have been successfully applied to other forms of drug use are also appropriate to methamphetamine use. Given the characteristics of methamphetamine use, a combination of tailored interventions and innovative responses (such as e-therapy) within a stepped care model is likely to reduce the harm associated with such use, and incriase access to and success in specialist drug treatment.
