Description: John Dewey's philosophy remains a source of inspiration for educational theorists. This chapter adopts an unusual stance: reading Dewey's works through the lens of complex systems theory. In the framework of systems thinking, knowledge is not reduced to given facts but becomes a function of 'an interaction between knower and known'(ibid.),very much in accord with Dewey's prophetic conceptualisations and pragmatic theory of inquiry (Dewey, 1938).
