Hypoplasticity is a relatively new framework for constitutive modelling of granular materials. In this paper a revision of the hypoplastic model for sand formulated by Gudehus and Bauer is proposed. The original model can reproduce qualitatively the main features of the behaviour of sand-like granular materials for a wide stress and density range. But the model is not able to capture quantitatively the stress ratio and volumetric strain simultaneously, particularly for dense sand. The revision is made by a slight modification of the formulation and introduction of a stress transformation. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the improvement of the model performances.
