The international impact of globalisation has led to increased domestic competition, elevated client expectations, diminishing profit margins and the need to participate on an international platform. The construction industry has sought innovative methods to fulfil these needs and demands by forging both domestic and international affiliations. Relationships such as partnerships, alliances, joint ventures and mergers attempt to successfully manage risks and integrate resources in order to provide single source holistic solutions. This paper focuses on the impact of globalisation on the Australian construction industry and the subsequent strategic actions taken to manage the threats and achieve the opportunities of a global market. The paper explores the issues introduced to the Australian Construction lndustry (ACI) and uses a survey of 90 ACI participants. The results illustrate an industry with extensive comprehension of the globalisation concept and emphasises a strong, healthy presence in the international marketplace using relationship-based procurement strategies.
