Description: Key Points: (1) Adolescence and young adulthood are critical development periods that are associated with increased vulnerability to a range of mental health and substance use problems. (2) Current models of service delivery tend to focus on low prevalence disorders (such as psychosis) and often fail to address adequately the needs of young people with high prevalence co-existing conditions, such as substance misuse and depression. (3) Despite high rates of co-existing mental health disorders among young people with drug and alcohol problems, little evidence suggest which treatments are most effective for this population. This is especially true for the high prevalent co-existing conditions of depression and problematic substance use.
