This chapter aims to: explore the crucial role of classroom teachers in addressing the challenges of inclusive early childhood, primary and secondary classrooms (identified in earlier chapters) and the need for teacher reflection; identify the characteristics of effective schools and explore the need to embrace change if the needs of all students are to be met; explore the collaborative model as a means of supporting students, families and teachers in inclusive classrooms and schools, ensuring that the most effective instructional programs to support students in achieving their maximum potential are designed and implemented; explore the collaborative model as a means of facilitating change in classrooms and schools; define and identify the essential principles of collaborative consultation and teamwork; reflect on how best to establish effective partnerships between families and teachers, and between teachers and other school personnel and professionals, as a means of promoting successful inclusion; examine action research as a powerful means of problem-solving and promoting staff development, and of bringing about change.
