Description: This paper emerges from an attempt to understand what text of Gorg. 491d was being read in late antiquity; the original purpose of the exercise was simply to understand Olympiodorus correctly; yet hopefully it may throw some light on the correct text of this problematic passage, and raise issue concerning the manuscript tradition.
