Collection Development and Access Guidelines

About NOVA

NOVA is the University of Newcastle's institutional digital repository. This service is available to assist with central storage, management and access to research and research related outputs and resources of the University of Newcastle, its staff, students and affiliates.

A major feature of the repository is its ability to promote the research of our University by making our content accessible, searchable and discoverable by the global research community. Where possible we will endeavour to make available a full-text publication or research related output, in-line with the appropriate copyright permissions and the copyright owner as relevant to each work.

Copyright, Compliance and Access

The deposit of material into NOVA does not transfer copyright to the University of Newcastle. Inclusion, use and access of full-text material in the repository is subject to copyright law and agreement with the publisher or copyright owner.

The following conditions for full-text access apply:

  • The author owns the copyright and authorises deposit in the repository, or
  • Permission has been obtained from the copyright owner or the publisher to deposit within the repository, or
  • The publisher as copyright owner allows it to be held in an institutional repository

Where the deposit of the full material is not possible due to copyright restrictions, a citation, abstract and descriptive information including a link to an alternative location such as to the publisher's version of the material may be added to NOVA.

Currently, content in NOVA and any accompanying full-text text that has been made available will be accessible by the global research community via the Internet.
